As part of the GAR Live: London 2024, Prof. Maxi Scherer will speak on a panel on "Challenges and opportunities advising on disputes involving sanctions”.

The proliferation of sanctions has led to a surge in case law including in relation to specific procedural features, and in particular anti-suit injunctions and any number of variations thereof. London in particular has seen a large number of arbitrations involving sanctioned parties, not in the least because of the framework of general and individual licences allowing arbitrations to take place in particular in Russia-related cases where parallel proceedings have been brought in Russia. This session will bring together leading practitioners to discuss how the proliferation of sanctions globally has led to developments in international law.
