Prof Maxi Scherer to deliver the keynote speech of the joint Herbert Smith Freehills – Singapore Management University Asian Arbitration Lecture 2024 on “We need to talk about …. Regulating AI in International Arbitration”

6 November 2024

Maxi Scherer will deliver the keynote speech of the 2024 edition of the joint Herbert Smith Freehills – SMU Asian Arbitration Lecture.

This year’s keynote speech will focus on discussions on the need and desirability to regulate the use of AI in international arbitration, whether on a national, international, or institutional level. The lecture will also discuss whether express AI regulation is necessary in international arbitration in the first place, and if so, what form it should take, touching important considerations regarding procedural fairness, transparency, and data protection, amongst others.

The Herbert Smith Freehills-SMU Asian Arbitration Lecture Series was established in 2010. The objective of the Lecture Series is to promote collaborative forms of dispute resolution and access to justice, and in so doing to promote Singapore as the centre for dispute resolution in Asia, particularly in arbitration and mediation.

The lecture, organized under the aegis of the Centre for Commercial Law in Asia (CCLA) of the Singapore Management University will take place on 6 November 2024 in the facilities of the faculty.
