Chiann chaired the 26th Annual International Bar Association (IBA) Arbitration Day in London, which focused on “Redefining the contours of international arbitration”. The conference fostered in-depth discussions on the evolution and future of arbitration, providing attendees with valuable insights into contemporary challenges and developments in the field.
The IBA brought together legal experts to discuss pressing issues in international arbitration, segmented through four different sessions:
Session one: Revisiting Rule of Law in Arbitration
This session evaluated the adequacy of institutional support in arbitration and discussed potential reforms to enhance the arbitral process.
Session two: Future Disputes Involving States
This session explored optimal forums for resolving State-related disputes amidst evolving investment treaties and the rise of international commercial courts.
Session three: Arbitration at the Cutting Edge
This session assessed the readiness of current arbitral processes to address disputes arising from emerging industries and technological advancements.
Session four: UNCITRAL Model Law – 40 Years On
This session reflected on the impact of the UNCITRAL Model Law on national arbitration laws and discussed the benefits and challenges of legislative divergences.
